Moseley Old Hall is an Elizabethan house, which becomes more evident when you see the wealth of exposed timbers inside the building. The outside of Moseley Old Hall received a 'facelift' in the 19th Century, when a skin of brickwork was wrapped around the house.
The Hall has associations with Charles II who hid here after the Battle of Worcester. One of the bedrooms has a secret panel to a Priest's hole.
Moseley Old Hall has quite a homely atmosphere, which probably contributed to its second place in the 1998 NPI National Heritage Awards.
Disabled visitors have access to the ground floor of Moseley Old Hall, and a free guided tour is available. The garden is also accessible to the disabled.
The garden of Moseley Old Hall has been recreated in a 17th Century style with a formal box parterre surrounded on 3 sides by an arbor. Only 17th Century plants are grown here.
An exhibition in the barn of Moseley Old Hall tells the story of Charles II escape after the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
Wightwick Manor is just the other side of Wolverhampton. This a Victorian house (National Trust) but built in several much older styles and furnished with an Arts and Crafts influence.
